The longest title on a blog post – I couldn’t think how best to describe the post – so that’s what I came up with!
It was mine & hubby’s 4th wedding anniversary a couple of weeks ago and Matt booked us to go see Catherine D’Lish & a host of other fabulous Burlesque artists last Friday. We were super excited as Ms D’Lish is one of the Burlesque performers we’ve wanted to see, Dita is top (of course – we haven’t had chance to see her yet)
The tickets stipulated Dress Code – Black Tie & Hollywood Glamour….as I don’t go out much on evenings I had no idea what to wear and I was on a strict budget. Anyway I spoke to my mum and she found me this amazing Oriental Dress that fitted perfectly and I had the perfect accessories…so my lovely mum bought it for me!
Here’s the dress:
Some lovelies on Facebook reassured me that Hollywood Glamour is a wide spectrum and people will interpret it in different ways, so I went full on Oriental….and I am now totally loving the look and am on the look out for vintage oriental outfits now
I had slept in sponge rollers the night before, I wore it down in the day as I went out with my mum and dad, I’d decided to wear it up so you could the detail on the collar of the dress.
Here’s the outfit I put together:
I chose my fab Miss L Fire Shoes, I love their shoes they are so comfy! My Miss Bamboo Bag, 1930s Vintage Hair Combs & Orchid Flowers my mum got me to put in my hair.
Orchids & Hair Combs, I thought they had an Oriental feel to them and couldn’t wait to wear them!
As I don’t go out alot on an evening, when I do I like to have some pamper time, so I painted my nails classic red with half moons (tutorial for this will be up next week!)
I wore quite heavy make up, so I could get a flawless appearance – with flicks and red lips, of course.
I couldn’t decide how to put my hair up and after a few styles I decided on a roll at the back with the pearl hair net from Rosie Alia Designs  and roll round the front – accessorising with the hair combs and orchids.
Here’s the complete look (I changed handbags to my 1940s crochet fan bag – so I could put more in it!)
I felt really comfortable in this outfit and for the first time in ages I wore my Rago extra firm girdle and WKD polka dot seamed stockings, Â when wearing stockings and a girdle I definitely feel more confident and walk with a wiggle
I’ve decided I need more pencil skirts/dresses in my wardrobe!
When we got into the venue there was a sign saying Catherine D’Lish wouldn’t be performing due to circumstances beyond their control, so naturally we were disappointed as this was the main reason we booked.
While we were waiting for the show to start we went to the bar and saw lots of people dressed very differently, from mermaid dresses to full on vintage to jeans! (not sure jeans were ever Hollywood Glamour?!) I decided I’d like a cocktail so I tried a “Diamond Fizz” I’m not sure what was in it, but it was very nice (although I wasn’t impressed with the glass!)
You can see my hairstyle here…if you would like a tutorial, leave a comment
We were waiting for the show to start here and I had my camera ready to take lots of pics to show you, but only the show photographers were allowed to take pics…so unfortunately I have no pics of the show (only me!) Matt & I really enjoyed it and we saw Anna Fur Laxis, who I’ve been lucky enough to meet when I did a vintage hair & make up class with her. We also saw some acts we haven’t seen before and they were entertaining.
In the interval I had another Diamond Fizz Cocktail in a rather large wine glass.
The second part of the show was entertaining and there was a best dressed competition, which was won by Fanny Divine.
I have so much respect for burlesque performers to get up on stage infront of an audience, I think its fabulous they all ooze confidence and rock the stage for women of all shapes, sizes and ages.
Apparently Catherine D’Lish couldn’t make it due to immigration issues, she had a weekend full of shows and they all got cancelled. Matt & I were disappointed as it was a treat for our wedding anniversary and we drove an hour, but the other performers did a fab job & we had a glamorous evening.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading – have you been to burlesque, did you enjoy it?
Lots of Love
Katy
